Desert Battle is the first mission in the Desert chapter of Story Missions. The enemies here are all newcomers. The Lizard Swordsman serves as a fast rusher, the Spearman is more of a heavy hitter, and the Axe Thrower is a ranged attacker. The most interesting new enemy is the Worm which stays burrowed underground until one of the players' units blocks it. While it is underground, it can't be targeted by attacks or even hit by splash damage. Also, these are the first story enemies to have magic resistance, although it isn't enough to seriously discourage magical attackers.
The most important feature of the desert missions is on display here. This is the Hashim drop. Hashim's ability makes it so all classes receive the class bonus EXP when combining with Hashim. Hashim is featured on many desert story maps, and makes them excellent for farming unit EXP. The completion reward here is also a new unit that was introduced with the desert series: Barrad. He is the first male Rogue to be introduced in the game, but otherwise not too notable.
Also new is the special Initial HP reduction: Small condition which reduces the HP of newly placed units by 20%. All desert missions feature a similar condition (although it will be larger on later missions).
